“Let’s speak clearly about women’s cancer”

With the support of the communications company CLARO and the Nuremberg Twinning, Movicáncer Nicaragua has been developing from October 2012 to February 2013 the campaign “Let’s Speak Clearly about Women’s Cancer”.

This campaign was focused on demystifying those mistaken beliefs that persist in the Nicaraguan population and especially in women. For this, Hinges and Brochures, t-shirts and other materials were prepared explaining the myths, and providing new knowledge that allows women to identify the risk factors in the development of Cervical and Breast Cancer as well as prevention and treatment options. .

This campaign has been joined by the Faculty of Medicine of the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua UNAN-LEÓN, the Cabinet of Health and Life (GSV) of some neighborhoods of León and Río San Juan and especially workers of the Ministry of Health, who have used the available spaces in order to promote free Pap smears in MINSA Health Units and Clinical Breast Examinations.

It was a surprise to many women that medical students came to their places of work to share this type of information and many women had the opportunity to ask questions based on their doubts and receive the proper answers in their own jobs.

“They had never appeared in the market to talk to me about how to take care of my health,” said Mrs. Rosa Dalia from the Central Market of León. José Mendieta, student of the medicine cart, expressed: “thank you for making me feel useful”, and added “talking with people made me feel that I was contributing to the health of my city and made me see the value of preventive medicine” He concluded .

This campaign in complementary support to the activities of the Ministry of Health-MINSA for Women’s Health and in association with the call of the International Union Against Cancer (UICC) in the framework of February 4, 2013, a year dedicated to demystify the Cancer and especially those beliefs that constitute a barrier in access to women’s health.
