Every second 16 people die from some type of cancer in the world and 70% of cases occur in developing countries like Nicaragua.
The good news is that a third of these deaths worldwide can be avoided just by taking responsible measures at the individual, family and government levels to modify some risk factors such as: Smoking, Obesity, Promotion of physical activity at work and at school, implementation of programs to reduce tobacco and alcohol consumption, greater availability of fruits and vegetables at an affordable cost at the community level, and visiting the doctor once a year in order to undergo control examinations.
Changing the face of Cancer is possible. Every year more companies are positioning themselves as allied brands committed to sustainable and high-impact proposals related to prevention and timely treatment. “These companies are saving lives, saving families!”
In just the last two years, the Movicancer Foundation has deployed an ambitious early detection program for the Prevention of Cervical Cancer that has benefited more than 86,000 women in four health regions of the Republic of Nicaragua through the implementation of the DNA Test of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), the virus that causes this type of preventable cancer.
Along with this ambitious “early detection” program we are simultaneously training and empowering doctors, gynecologists and nurses so that they can organize to ensure timely treatment of women with pre-cancer, before they develop symptoms of the disease (invasive cancer) and also, We are donating supplies and mobile medical equipment in order to bring the treatment to the communities where these women originate.
Most of these women are agricultural worker, some are teachers, others work in popular markets, many work as “house helpers”, most are housewives or co-workers, but all contribute to economic activity in their own communities, and when a woman dies from this type of cancer, not only is the economy of the community is affected, but in most cases the dependent children of these women are forced to drop out of school, which threatens their future of overcoming poverty.
Also, we are developing the “Road to Recovery” program, an innovative initiative that includes 1) Psycho-oncological assistance for thousands of patients who are treated in the hospitals of the Republic and in the National Radiotherapy Center (NRC) “Dra. Nora Astorga”, 2) We are raising funds to provide high-cost cancer treatment, which cannot be afforded by the families of women with breast cancer and, 3) We continue to support with funds, so that women with cancer and children with diseases Hemato-oncology, they can attend their consultations punctually each month, providing the money they need to move and eat on the road while they arrive at hospitals in the city of Managua.
We began this initiative in 2009 thanks to the support of the Nuremberg Twinning, Germany, an experience that has been welcomed by other organizations that are supporting the transport of these patients from the SILAIS, so that they can win the battle against cancer.
At Fundación Movicáncer we are aware that “those who defeat cancer are as heroes as those who help to defeat it”.
In order to honor these hero companies and institutions, the Movicancer Foundation has created the brand: Solidarity Certificate “Socially Responsible Businesses” with the purpose of creating a community of five-star companies and entrepreneurs that with their “own light” and in alliance with our cause are channeling a percentage of their profits under the “CSR” modality, with the vision of supporting the fight against cancer, in order to help win the battle that men, women and children wage every day in our country.

This new Solidarity Certificate «Socially Responsible Businesses» is renewed each year with your contributions to a specific program of the Foundation, or by donating without restrictions with the purpose of dedicating the funds to sensitive areas for their successful development. Contributing in this way to our mission, it joins an exclusive group of highly prestigious companies at a global level that “work in alliances to prevent Cancer and reduce the suffering it causes”.
