V International Cancer Control Congress

Lima, Peru: from November 4-6, the 5th International Congress on Cancer Control (5CCCI) was held in the distinguished city of Lima, capital of Peru, at the Westin-Lima Hotel, where exponents from all over America also participated. America, Europe, Africa and Asia, representatives of Nicaragua, namely the National Coordinator of the Cancer Control Program Lic. Ana Cecilia Silva and for the Movicancer Foundation Dr. Juan Almendarez and Lic. Benito Martínez Granera, as well as Susan Howe a friend from Nicaragua, who has carried out different projects in the northern zone of Nicaragua for the control of Cervical Cancer.

In this V Congress, 5 work sessions were held that addressed the improvements and maintenance of prevention. Mobilization of society, the use of data and evidence to improve interventions in the health of the population; Improve integrated approaches to cancer treatment and care, and the integration of research, practice, and policy priorities to achieve cost-effective cancer control. The experiences achieved in some countries could be adjusted to the realities of others and replicable, especially in countries with limited resources. New publications and bibliographic reviews were presented by PAHO on cervical cancer control, which are available both physically and online for Spanish-speaking countries.

In this framework, the participants exchanged experiences on the recent advances in this medical specialty. The plenary sessions, among other aspects, dealt with programs to improve and sustain cancer prevention, the importance of society for an effective control of the disease, the improvement of the population’s health using data and tests as support for policies aimed at controlling this disease and integrated approaches to treatment and specialized care.
